Mickle Hill Retirement Village – Reception & Entrance Area Redesign
Location: Pickering, North Yorkshire
Client: Mickle Hill Retirement Village
Scope: Interior Design, Concept Development, Styling & Installation
Interiors at Nine to Eleven was appointed to redesign the entrance and foyer areas at Mickle Hill Retirement Village in Pickering. The existing space was felt to be too bland and lacking warmth, and the brief was to create a more welcoming, friendly, and locally inspired environment for residents and visitors.
Our concept took inspiration from the Yorkshire flat cap, leading to a unique, commissioned art installation that celebrates local identity and adds instant character to the reception area. To further reflect the heritage and landscape of the area, we also commissioned original artwork by Yorkshire artist Julia Rigby, including scenes of Dalby Forest, local farmland, and Pickering's historic marketplace.
The design scheme introduced colour and texture through carefully selected fabrics and wallpapers, using a palette inspired by Ben Pentreath’s collaboration with Morris & Co. This allowed us to bring in traditional design elements while keeping the overall feel uplifting and contemporary.
Walls were painted in soft heritage blues to create a calm, elegant backdrop for the artwork and furnishings. The Interiors at Nine to Eleven team delivered the full transformation, including styling and installation, to ensure a cohesive and welcoming space that reflects the spirit of both the village and its community.
